Posters do not lie: SÍ HAY (‘YES THERE IS’). A statement that in Venezuela is almost an act of faith. Yes, there is flour. Yes, there is cheese. Yes, there is coffee. Because when scarcity is the norm, one learns to highlight abundance, no matter how small. Large letters, posters taped on the windows of bakeries, butcher shops and neighborhood grocery stores. In Venezuela, the posters do not announce the lack, but the certainty that there is still some. Yes, there is bread. Yes, there is sugar. Yes, there is harina PAN.

In Barcelona, another sign has the same function: PRODUCTO LATINO with an arrow pointing to a corner of the supermarket. A hint, a wink to those who are looking for a piece of their origin in other people's shelves. Among flours, condiments and familiar packaging, the sign not only orients, but legitimizes the presence of those who carry their identity between borders.

The installation «SÍ HAY PRODUCTO LATINO» (‘YES THERE IS LATIN PRODUCT’) is an extension of that same affirmation. Like the fanzine that gives rise to it, it is a testimony of comings and goings, of absence and presence, of a country that is carried on its back.

Here, the posters not only advertise products, but also stories. And if there is something that leaves a trace, that imposes presence, it is graffiti. A vice, a necessity, a condemnation. Painting on the street is another way of saying yes, of defying oblivion, of marking territory in cities that do not always accept foreign bodies. A pasted poster, a signature on concrete, two different gestures with the same need to assert oneself.

Aquí sí hay. (‘Here there is’).
